Viking

Story

When Bill and Bob Healey took over Peterson-Viking, a struggling wooden boat builder more than 45 years ago and renamed it the Viking Yacht Company, little did they know that it would be the genesis of a new empire that would grow to become a world leader in semi-custom fiberglass yacht production. From the beginning, the Healeys committed to a philosophy of building a better boat everyday, a mantra that remains as strong and solid today as it did on April 1, 1964 when the history of this privately owned and family run company began. It is the storied tale of two brothers who started with nothing more than grit and resolve and how they literarily reinvented and forever changed the boat building industry.

With Bill as the boat builder and Bob on the business side, the brothers instinctively knew that three things were necessary for long term success and growth in the boat business: ground breaking product design, a distinguished dealer network and outstanding customer support.

Viking builds battlewagons, not Intracoastal Waterway cruisers. Built to be run hard in big game fishing tournaments, Vikings are in their element on the oceans around the world. And while you may never cruise the waters of Alaska, the South Pacific, the Great Lakes, fish for black marlin off Australia, giant bluefin off Nantucket, or even cross the Atlantic Ocean as some Viking owners have done in their Vikings, it is reassuring to know your Viking is ready for the challenge and will safely take you and your family wherever you choose to go in comfort and luxury.

Every new Viking model begins with a clean sheet of paper, which allows our in-house teams of 25 engineers, eight CAD technicians and eight designers to develop performance and style parameters. The final products is achieved from the combined experience of hundreds of talented shipwrights whose specialties include naval architecture, design, mechanical, electrical, carpentry, welding and fiberglass skills. Our professionally run comprehensive demo program allows us to vigorously evaluate these new models in real world conditions, until they satisfy our expectations and will exceed yours. We are constantly exploring and analyzing new materials, and reinventing systems for performance and reliability. We have invested more than $2 million in a pair of five-axis computer operated milling machines that work around the clock cutting plug parts from which we create our molds for new models. Not only does Viking have the youngest fleet in the industry, but our strength has allowed us to introduce 16 new models in the past 24 months, with more waiting in the wings. Viking defines the leading edge of yacht design and manufacturing, and what you see aboard a Viking today will appear on a competitor’s boat three or four years from now. But by then, we will have already marched farther along the trail of innovative excellence, which is the lifeblood of our company and our commitment to you.

Viking is vertically integrated and does not use sub-contractors. Your Viking is designed at out New Jersey factory, and virtually 90 percent of the parts and components that go into building the yacht are manufactured on site by Viking craftsmen. This affords the ultimate quality control and why lenders report higher resale values for Vikings. Additionally, Vikings have a reputation as preferred insurance risks by underwriters, which also enhances your investment. Even our competition will grudgingly acknowledge Viking’s reputation for performance, value, and luxury.

The strength of our company can be gauged by its dealer network, and here too, Viking demonstrates its true, unbridled power. Our youngest dealer has been with us for over a decade, while our oldest dealer has more than 33 years of Viking Yacht experience. Our dealers constantly earn the highest scores of customer satisfaction because their commitment to Viking and their customers mirrors our own.

What’s more, no one even comes close to Viking’s outstanding customer service. Vikings are supported by a service group 165 strong between our New Jersey yard and out two Viking owned and operated boatyards in Riviera Beach, Florida. In fact, our service team is larger than many boat builders’ entire work force. We are truly focused to care for your Viking from routine maintenance to major renovations, to warranty needs. Plus, with sister companies Atlantic Marine Electronics and Palm Beach Towers, Vikings can be delivered turnkey ready with custom accessories.

The Healey brothers have committed and reinvested themselves to the marine industry as no other company has. Like they product they build, the Healeys do not take a back seat only to react. Instead, they have driven their business through political, environmental and social topics that will ensure the continued growth and health of the marine and recreational fishing industries.

A financially sound company, with second and third generation Healeys in place to continue our unbroken reign, Vikings range from 46 to 82 feet are built on six production lines in our 810,000 square-foot modern facility spread out over 52 acres on the Bass River in New Gretna, New Jersey, about 20 minutes north of Atlantic City.

Since 1964, the Viking yacht Company has focused on building a better boat everyday. We have lives this philosophy through good times and bad, but have never yielded our resolve to build the best and earn your trust with every boat we produce. We consider everyone who walks through our doors family. We are at the New Gretna factory everyday because it is a reflection of our lives. This is why you find us on the dock and at boat shows. We enjoy what we do.

We are not suits or boardroom people. We are boat builders. We answer to our boat owners, not bankers or shareholders. We are more interested to hear about your fishing and cruising trips and how your family enjoy your Viking, because it helps us make a better product. We feel it is an honor to have you as part of our family.

We lead the industry in new product development and are recognized around the world for our advanced engineering and designs. You have our word that you are in good company when you choose Viking. But we also realize we must continue to earn your business and trust. We are committed to doing just that with every boat we build.

We hope to see you at the next boat show, on the docks, or on the water. We also encourage you to stop by the factory to see us building a better boat everyday.
